The month of September means London Fashion Week has rolled around once more for its second, semi-annual event. Featuring Spring/Summer 2016 trends, the event will run from the 18th to the 22nd of September 2015 at a brand new venue. Previously held in Somerset House, this year the organisers have moved the proceedings to Brewer Street Car Park in Soho, London’s hip and creative fashion hub for many years. There are so many fashions to get excited about and here are some of the things that Tru Diamonds™ is really looking forward to.
What to Expect
The Italians Are Coming!
Versace’s sister label, Versus, are officially included in the week’s schedule for the first time. Donatella and guest creative director Anthony Vaccarello, are set to take the town by storm with their signature high glamour. The rumour mill says ‘expect lots of gold’. Other must-see shows to look out for include Fashion East, Topshop Unique, Molly Goddard, Roksanda and the debut solo show from Ryan Lo.
More Wes Anderson influences?
The surprise style icon for the Autumn/Winter fashion shows was Margot Tenenbaum (as played by Gwyneth Paltrow) from Wes Anderson’s whimsical family drama, The Royal Tenenbaums. Her Fendi fur coat, raccoon eye makeup, Lacoste tennis dress and Burkin bag have inspired a league of followers among the fashion elite. With his remarkable eye for detail, exquisite colour palettes and incorporation of retro chic with high fashion, Anderson has made quite a name for himself in fashion circles. He has even collaborated with big fashion names such as Prada on the three-part advert for their fragrance, Candy. Will we see more Wes Anderson inspired ensembles on the runway? One can only hope.
Emma Hill, Mulberry’s former creative director, is back! She is launching a new accessories label called Hill and Friends, a collaboration with her former Mulberry colleague, Georgie Fendley. Rumours are running rampant, as the new label has been keeping mum on what they have in store so keep your eye out for that!
Bathed in Colour
This season’s predicted hues seem set to dazzle on the runway. Colours that have been featured so far for the SS16 season can be separated into 5 distinct and exquisite palettes:
- Neutral – Persimmon, Hazy Taupe, Moonstone Blue, Oyster Pink, Quartz Gray
- Jewel tones – Burgundy, Indigo, Dark teal
- Vibrant mid tones – Coral
- Bright – Periwinkle
- Soft pastel – Blue Hydrangea, Lemon Chiffon
As with every year, many events will of course be by invite only, but for mere mortals, there are events that will be open to all. For a shortlist of the Top 10 not to be missed sideshows, head to the Time Out London website for more details.
