He kept the nation and world in utter suspense but he has arrived! After nine long months of summation, Baby George Alexander Louis is here. As expected and in true royal form, Kate left the hospital looking nothing short of elegantly composed. In her light blue spotted dress and her cream coloured wedges, Kate was the epitome of poise and perfection.
"The pearl owes nothing to man. It is absolutely a gift of nature on which man cannot improve." - George Fredrick Kunz, great gemmologist of the late 19th century.
Being amongst the most coveted gems in the world, the opalescent radiance of pearls has captivated both men and women for eons. They have been offered in romance and taken in victory. Symbolic of feminine wisdom, purity, innocence and faith, the pearl is an unspoken declaration. Pearl jewellery is an immensely popular choice for brides with many choosing pearls to enhance their beauty and symbolize the purity of their love.
Isn’t it ironic that such a revered gem on land begins as a mere irritant in a mollusc under the sea? When a foreign element works its way into an oyster, it then begins secreting a substance to engulf the annoying nuisance and protect itself. The process continues until, layer after layer, an impeccable pearl results.
This ‘diamond of the sea’ has withstood the mutable trends of fashion and prevails under an eternal reign of elegance in a seamless balance of innovation and tradition. From tradition and days gone by, pearls have even been said to have changed history. Marc Antony watched in awe as, after accepting a wager that Cleopatra could consume the wealth of an entire nation in one meal, she removed one of her pearl earrings, crushed it, and drank the powder mixed with wine. After such a grandiose gesture, he was completely enamoured to the point of neglecting his duties to the Roman Empire. History was written!
There simply is nothing as timeless and classic as a shimmering solitaire gem set delicately in a precious metal band. When we find something as revered and treasured as a fabulous piece of solitaire jewellery, we should take the time to find out exactly where it originated and just why it is so admired.
Most often, a solitaire ring is associated with an engagement. The tradition of bestowing a ring for this occasion is contended to go back to cavemen days – believe it! As things weren’t quite as ‘refined’ back then, rings were woven out of grass and imparted to claim mates. Even cavemen had a romantic side… Egyptians were found to be buried with gold or silver wire wrapped intricately round the ring finger on the left hand, connecting to the heart via the vena amoris, the love vein – a custom evidently still in practice.
Along came the late 19th century, and with it, the launch of the tiffany-style ring – a single stunning diamond lofted in a secure six-prong head. This layout displayed the gemstone prominently, allowing for maximum light play and sparkle. Now who could not fall for that? From the original design, then came charming variations like the four-claw and bezel settings.
As the trend rose through the eras, stones became larger and more lavish – especially in the celebrity circles, where stars have been spotted flashing their bling with every click of the paparazzi cameras. The ring trend spread rapidly across the jewellery range to earrings and pendants which allowed for greater scope of imaginative settings.
While some people select alternative stones, like sapphires or rubies, it is the diamond that seems to maintain its traditional hold over modern tastes and changing trends. Whatever size or colour gem you choose, the solitaire item of jewellery defines impeccable taste with the added accessories of glamour and sparkle.
Whether athletics is a sport that warms your blood and gets it coursing through your veins, or ogling the thousands of spectators revelling in all kinds of apparel and accessories is more your cup of tea – the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games is definitely worth viewing.
Forming part of the Samsung Diamond League, this coveted British Athletics event sees sporting heroes and Olympic champions returning to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on 26 – 28 July to display great feats of vigour and agility. While the track is dominated by robust athletes, the stadium itself accommodates thousands of frolicking fans and followers.
Being an incredibly popular venue, the stadium is guaranteed to be packed to capacity. Not only does this give viewers the opportunity to witness performances by some of the most celebrated names in athletics, it also gives attendees the chance to stylishly shine and flash some fashion.
Stepping out is as good a reason as any to look your best. Stepping out into a venue guaranteed to be crowded means having to take that extra effort to style up. Adding a delicious pair of heels and some iridescent jewellery to even a plain jeans-and-t-shirt outfit is enough to make it celeb chic. Add a classic solitaire Princess Cut Pendant or a glimmering pair of Trilogy Earrings to highlight your outfit with just the perfect amount of shine.
Even the athletes themselves know how to add subtle sparkle. Jessica Ennis draws accessory attention with just a shimmery watch and a stunning circular pendant.
The BAFTA’s might be about celebration and recognition of work done in the film and television arts, but it is also a platform for style and sartorial elegance. Even if they don’t walk away with a masked award, the industries finest show up in a grand effort to steal some limelight. There are always those that shine brighter than most and it is to them we look for style secrets and fashion inspiration.
The elegance of black numbers was, in true celebrity fashion, a popular choice on the red-carpet. Jennifer Gardner took command with understated sophistication in a black and white outfit with sculptural peplum detailing. She chose to enhance the trendy outfit with shimmering silvery accessories. Get glamorous like Gardner with platinum pieces like the Tru-Diamonds™ Diamond Cascade Earrings, the Sunset Boulevard Ring and the Command Performance Bracelet.
Amy Adams looked classically stylish in her Elie Saab couture gown complete with lace panel and black train. Her choice of ruby accessories added to the overall dramatic effect. While many stuck to a safe monochromatic palette, Jessica Chastain and Marion Cotillard chose to wow with the colour pop trend. Jessica stepped out in an electric satin sapphire gown that got tongues wagging and heads turning for all the right reasons. The sapphire glow shone through in her brilliant blue gemmed accessories. Marion looked like a drop of sunshine in the dismal weather sporting a canary yellow Dior dress. She teamed the colour burst with bright red lipstick and dainty sparkling diamond jewellery. Shine like the sultry French actress with stunners like the Tiffany Style Bracelet, the Glowing Kisses Earrings and the Showstopper Necklace.
You probably realised soon after your 5th birthday that it is pretty difficult – almost impossible in fact, for most girls to resist a little sparkle. We are suckers for that which shines, everything that twinkles and all that glitters. Is it the way the light catches and reflects off the gleaming surfaces or the purity that it represents? Who knows – it is simply beautiful and we love it!
Dresses that sparkle: celebs have long been partial to frocks that flash and gowns that glimmer when taking to the red carpet. While the opportunity to wear such lavish attire rarely presents itself, get a taste of the all eyes on me effect with a more casually suited yet dazzling ensemble by pairing a shimmering top with denims.
Shoes that sparkle: put a twinkle in your stride and step out in a dazzling pair of shimmering shoes. Be it glistening heels or glittering flats, it’s the shine that will draw the attention to even the most casual of outfits.
Make up that sparkles: the shimmer is not reserved only for clothing. Carry the effervescence of this trend through to your face paint. If the eyes are the windows to your soul, illuminate the entrance with some dazzling glittery eye-shadow. Some subtle sparkling gloss will draw attention with each lick of your lips.
Just because the winter chill has set in with the temperature dropping at a rate of knots, doesn’t mean that you have to bundle up to the detriment of the glam factor and let style suffer. The trick is to cosy up to the season and embrace the bulk and layering; to keep warm while still looking cool.
Three simple style tips to follow as you snuggle down:
Faux Fur – a statement piece that will get you noticed, fur has to be the ultimate feel good chill factor feature that will have you wishing for snow and perhaps the odd blizzard or two. Sophisticated echoes of a bygone era made current with stylish accessories and on trend garments. Stack your wrist with Grand Premiere bangles or a very simple and elegant pair of Emerald Cut earrings.
Chic Capes – no Batman and Robin just the perfect snug option when you don’t necessarily feel like the full bundle-up and require rather a stylish piece that wards off the chill. You’ll look hot and confident with an on-trend bohemian vibe this winter. If you wear the cape with a visible neckline then accessorise with necklaces such as the Trilogy Necklace or the Solitaire Pendant. Sparkles will complete your outfit - Princess Eternity Ring or Solitaire Ring.
Scarves, scarves and more scarves – you can’t have enough this winter. In the style stakes opt for checks, stripes and solids and avoid cheesy prints. Paired with a classic coat and a sleek set of boots, you’ll be ready to step out in style. With wonderful styling options such as oversized bags and detailed belts, it wouldn’t be complete without a simple pair of classic Emerald Sparkling Crescent Earrings a Rhapsody Ring or even a pair of Glitterati Hoop Earrings.
Shaken not stirred is as iconic as Miss Money Penny and the runway of beautiful women that casually appeared alongside, poolside and bedside of 007. These timeless, sophisticated, stylish and envied bevvy of beauties epitomised gorgeous glamour over the years.
Today these perfectly manicured goddesses still transcend time and place and are on trend as style revisits perfectly sheathed bodies accessorised with fine pieces. Epitomising the ultimate bond girl Ursula Andress takes top spot - uber-sophisticated, classic and sensual; classy and provocative. Perfectly poised for 2012 – Ms Andress would choose a pair of Posh Bel Aire Earrings, Sparking Pearl or perhaps the classic Emerald Inspiration earrings.
Fresh faced and oh so beautiful Sophie Marceau is another trophy on Bonds arm. Starring as Electra King in the ‘World Is Not Enough’ this French born actress will be remembered as one of the sexiest and most stylish Bond treasures. With her gorgeous long neck and picture perfect face she is one of the ultimate showcases for jewellery and garments. Tru-Diamonds™ Tender Touch and Triple Drop Earrings as well as the superb Emerald Cut ring would complement Sophie’s timeless wardrobe.
Barbara Bach played Major Amasova in ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ and she started a new revolution of Bond girls. Gone were the timid side-kicks who were arm candy to 007’s Bond. Barbara played a feisty hot headed professional who could hold her own in any situation. This big eyed beauty chose simple statement pieces. Today she may select the Circle Of Life pendant or the Timeless Treasure Pendant.
Our personal favourite at Tru-Diamonds™ has to be Tiffany Case who starred in ‘Diamonds Are Forever’. She was devious and devilish in the 1971 blockbuster and we all admired her quick wit, quirky behaviour and flirty persona. Naturally any diamond pieces could adorn this pixie-like creature. The divine Beverley Hills Ring, Boldy Beautiful Earrings or Cincature Pendant would no doubt do the trick for the gorgeous Ms Case.
Christmas is undoubtedly all about indulgence and spoiling, thoughtfulness and consideration for family and friends. However let’s not forget it is also about you. Seasonal spend for the clan aside, how do you go about updating your Yule time look, yet remain within budget?
All it takes is some tweeks to your own style, incredible jewellery and you are good to go:
Blush – quite often this hero in your handbag gets forgotten. An easy and super affordable way to spruce up this season is to select a shade that will add warmth and definition to your complexion. Try apricots, pinks and rose hues gently dusted on the cheekbones. Compliment with Emerald Cut Earrings.
Metallic top – one of the hottest trends this Christmas, certain to bring some jingle to any party, are dresses and tops in fabric that is sequined, metallic and glitter; gorgeously glam and sophisticated. Accessorise with a sparkling Grande Premier Bangle and Sapphire Inspiration Ring.
Wear a pair of faux eyelashes – this has to be the most affordable yet big mileage in terms of effect. For dramatic eyes that won’t go un-seen add a pair of lashes and some colourful eye shadow. Super stylish and sexy when combined with Emerald Inspiration Earrings.
It really is the season to be jolly and genuine good tidings we bring particularly of the stylish kind. While it can get quite manic at this time of year one can still multi task and look incredible at the same time. After all the Christmas tree cannot be the only centre stage sensation.
You cannot go wrong with a little black dress or a sexy tux but what about glamming things up this season and opting for a different focus. So take this moment to not worry about the table setting or glazing the gammon or how many presents you still have to wrap. This is all about you …
Happening Hair – soft and sexy curls that are oh so feminine are the rage this season; nothing over the top – easy, fuss-free styling to perfectly showcase beautiful pieces of jewellery. From simple to ornate anything goes. Poised to shine are the Glowing Wings Earrings, Sweetheart Earrings, Trilogy Pearl Earrings and Shining Splendour Earrings.
This is your season to enter centre stage, elegantly and gracefully; and who can resist a chance to dress up despite the nip in the air. Splash out on an elegant evening dress for a Christmas dinner party in either a muted tone such as champagne or even white, or be bold and choose greens and reds and really stand out. The trick is to not over accessorize; clean and simple lines win. Try a pair of hand crafted gorgeous Bel-Aire Drop Earrings and a sophisticated Tiffany Style Bracelet.
While glammed up appeals to anyone’s sensibilities, make no mistake that doesn’t have to mean ball gowns and intricate story boards. Sometimes casual glam fits the bill – this year’s leggings look is spot on – both comfortable and when combined with a pair of trendy heels, a fitted cardigan or tailored jacket, funky glam comes to town. Add selected jewellery to lift the entire look and un-fussed glam is yours. Complimented by a pair of Glitterati Hoop Earrings or the Monark Watch; perhaps the Hearts Ablaze Pendant or for a multi-layered statement several Tru-Diamonds Bangles.
Tim Gunn, Project Runway mentor was quoted as saying, “Think about the items you wear not only as a reflection of your personal taste, but also as a sign, a communication about who you are. This applies to accessories just as much as it does to apparel. The visual relationship between your jewels and your clothes should strike harmony and balance.”
Keeping your pieces of jewellery current and up to date will add the edge to a stylish wardrobe. That said jewellery should be an investment in partnering seasonal trends year in and year out – it’s about selecting sophisticated pieces that allow you to update your style seamlessly. So what are the key item updates for this season?
It has been said that most people should have three rings - engagement, wedding and fashion rings. If the first two tick the box then acquiring the third is today’s lesson. Fashion rings are fun and make a statement. It’s the bling out the box and the sass with the shimmer that makes these type of rings perfect for updating any style; simple and elegant such as the Princess Style Eternity and the Rhapsody in Blue, to more dramatic pieces, such as the Impressive Emerald ring.
The next nip and tuck that can easily ring a fresh perspective is the choice of necklace you partner with your selected garment. Quite simply, it’s all down to the neckline. Plunging necklines should be matched with 17 to 19 inch necklaces such as the Posh Baby Doll or Trilogy 18 inch, while strapless gowns should pair with a choker or princess piece such as Royal Choker and South African Set.
The global earring has to be the stud; even if it sounds dated. Not so when you break out and either explore the stud market, from a color perspective Midnight Magic, or the cut and simple design approach as seen in Emerald Cut, or alternatively opt for a pair of Reflections Drop Earrings or even the ultra-feminine Precious and Pearl.
